Our Story

How They Met

Let’s see… where to start? In their free time, the couple loves spending time with friends, trying new food spots, and going on travel adventures together. It may sound cliché, but they truly are inseparable most days. You can usually find them working out together at 5 or 6 a.m. during the week at F45, carpooling to and from their offices in Seattle, exploring all the outdoor activities Washington has to offer on Saturdays, and meal prepping on Sundays as they get ready for the week ahead.

Karla is strong, loving, always ready to dance, and knows how to bring the spark to any gathering. Jake (aka Jake Bear) is thoughtful, romantic, easygoing, and has a knack for lightening up any conversation. Together, they balance each other perfectly, encouraging one another to be their best selves while never forgetting to have fun and laugh along the way. They are incredibly grateful to be surrounded by such an amazing group of friends and family and cannot wait to celebrate their wedding day with everyone in Costa Rica.

About The Couple

Karla and Jake met through mutual friends, Curtis and Carolina Aranda, better known as the Chilipinos. Curtis and Carolina had known both Karla and Jake for over a decade, yet somehow, through countless parties, gatherings, and trips, these two had never crossed paths.

At the time, Jake had just moved back to Washington (for the second time!) from California for work and was spending most weekends hanging out with the Chilipinos. Meanwhile, Karla was living in San Francisco and decided to visit Washington with her sister. On a snowy Valentine's Day weekend in February, fate and a cozy quarantine bubble in Marysville finally brought them together. Fun fact: they actually connected on LinkedIn first!

At first, they were just friendly acquaintances, not realizing they’d soon be seeing a lot more of each other. When Karla later moved to Washington, they began crossing paths regularly at Chilipino-hosted gatherings. After a few hangouts (and plenty of laughs), they had their first official date at Thruline Coffee in Kirkland, WA, and never looked back. Since then, their relationship has grown through shared adventures: traveling, hiking, binge-watching shows, discovering new food spots, and, of course, surviving many quarantine days together.
